What is Yoga Therapy?

In 2007 after an exhaustive process, the International Association of Yoga Therapists issued the first modern definition. The background article is here. The definition is: "Yoga therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well being through the application of the philosophy and practice of Yoga."
And this has an expanded definition of yoga therapy on page 7.

Is Yoga Therapy Safe?

 

Yoga therapy (YRx) is very different from the usual athletic yoga stereotype. As a young profession, YRx has a scope of practice, standards for accrediting schools and certifying individuals. There is also a pub-med indexed peer-reviewed research journal. These are the steps all professions take to advance safety and more development is in process.

What Does Yoga Therapy Cure?

Not a thing. YRx is NOT a pathological model for "fixing" sickness or disease (Read more here). There are many documented benefits of a practice, but the approach to healing or healers ought to be one of humility and emergence. Watch the video below to discover more about the future of YRx.
